Who we are

The team behind Today I Eat For Africa is a group of enthousiastic people who got inspired to do something for a better cause : help fighting the famine in East Africa.

With TIEFA we want to raise awareness and money for this horrible famine that requires emergency aid - now. So it requires action from all of us. We hope that Tiefa.org can inspire you to hop on, to make a contribution, and to encourage others to join in as well.

About the famine - what can we do about it?

We see famine as an injustice in a world that produces enough food and simply wastes too much of it. The world bins about 25 to 30% of the food that is produced – every day. That 'waste' is enough to feed hundreds of millions. Daily.

“Consumers in rich nations waste a combined 222 million tons a year, according to the report. That's almost as much as all the food produced in sub-Saharan Africa.”

The crisis at present is a consequence of the conflicts, the increase in food prices (yes, partly because we bin 30% of the production) and the extremely dry weather conditions. The situation at present is worst in Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya. If we don't act now, millions of children, men and women will become ill or die over the coming months.

The famine affects 11 to 12 million people, and will probably continue till early 2012. Among them are 2 million children under the age of 5.

We believe that it is our generation that must put a stop to this injustice. It is happening on our watch. While we have plenty and too much of it, every day; others just can't get their hands on it. We can change that.

So stop watching, start doing. This is a call to action to anyone who wants to help fight famine.
